Electric Radiator Maintenance

Home maintenance, we all know it, we all hate it, right? A big part of maintaining your home is looking after your home heating solution. Without the proper care, you can be left with no heating, which is far from ideal particularly in the winter.

If you have gas central heating, your annual service likely costs you approx €100. Heat pumps also needs need an annual service which can be even more expensive! And of course, if you have a boiler for oil fuelled heating, you know that regular servicing is the only way to ensure your boiler doesn’t kick the bucket.

What is home heating maintenance?

We maintain different parts of our home in different ways. However, in general, maintenance is the act of preserving something running in the best possible condition. When it comes to home heating, maintenance is essential to ensure your safety in your home, and to ensure the effectiveness of your heating solution. Without the right maintenance, you might be throwing money down the drain, running a heating system that isn’t in good working order.

It’s fair to say that most of us would love our homes to be low maintenance. It would require less effort, and even safe us money. Luckily, there is a maintenance-free home heating solution – electric radiators!

Maintaining an Electric Radiator

Technically there is no required maintenance for your electric radiator, but there are some steps you can take to improve it’s life-span and ensure you’re getting the most from it.

Cleaning your electric radiator

Although our electric radiator range has a very long list of features and benefits, they don’t self clean. (Imagine how cool that would be?) Just like any other household item or appliance, your electric radiator will likely gather dust. So, whenever you’re doing a deep clean, we recommend following these steps to clean your electric radiator.

  1. Switch off the radiator just to ensure you’re being as safe as possible when cleaning. It would be difficult to thoroughly clean a hot radiator!
  2. Remove as much dust as possible, whether it’s with a duster, hoover or microfibre cloth.
  3. Once you’ve removed the dust, you can wipe it down to give it a final, polished look.

Cleaning your electric radiator costs you absolutely nothing and might take you all of about 5 minutes – EASY! No professional service needed, no fancy cleaning products needed. Low maintenance at its finest. Other than keeping it clean, there is no other maintenance necessary for you electric radiator.

How long will an electric radiator last?

Since they require no maintenance, and no moving (breakable) parts, your electric radiators should last you up to 15 years. In fact, we give our customers a 15-year warranty with most purchases! Here at Smart Electrics, we only provide radiators with superior manufacturing, and quality materials.

Not only do they last you up to 15 years, but electric radiators operate independently. This means that if you ever experience a fault with one, your whole system isn’t out of action. It also means that when the time comes to think about replacing/upgrading your electric radiators, you can spread the cost over a couple of months or even years. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for boilers or gas heating.

What are the potential maintenance savings with electric radiators?

As we mentioned earlier, your annual service for gas, oil or heating pumps can set you back up to €200 per year. This costs is just baseline maintenance costs, assuming you don’t have any other issues during the year. Replacing a boiler can cost up to €3,000, and is a huge hassle. When you take all of this into consideration, you have to admit that electric radiators are very appealing.

Pair the maintenance savings with the potential savings of electric heating in terms of running costs, and you can see why we are seeing more and more people making the switch.
